Lorraine Brewer
Level 2 Coach AENA / 'C' Award Umpire FENA
Coaching is essential in any club. It is important from any early stage that children are taught basic skills, like catching, throwing, balancing and footwork. These skills are developed upon as the children grow and become more structured for attacking and defensive positioning.
Lorraine looks after the junior section, as well as advising the senior players. Lessons are structured and hard work, but with a lot of fun included. If a young player looks like they have a natural talent to play netball, Lorraine can call upon Dannielle Ledwith who is able to assess if they can be put forward to a talent workshop. Last year (07/08) we had 4 girls chosen from approximately 150 from other clubs to attend talent workshops runs by county coaches, 2 of whom have moved onto a higher junior level.
Umpiring
It is essential that the club have a
certified umpire in order to play in the Bishop's Stortford Winter
League. The Umpire is responsible for checking the court, ball, shoes, nail length, hair, jewellery and watches, etc. before a
match can proceed. The game cannot begin without two umpires.
Umpiring is very different to actually playing the game. They are always in demand. The club will send those interested in umpiring on courses, which will benefit the club in the future.
Lorraine is the club's qualified Umpire and an Umpiring Mentor for Beginners to 'C' Award. She is also on the Bishop's Stortford League committee as Results and Cancellation officer and Assistant Umpiring Secretary. We currently have 2 beginner umpires working towards their 'C' Award - Emma Ure and Kerri Millership.
